Give The Boot to Bugs

Trying to tiptoe around this season’s cold and flu germs?  Let your feet take an active role in boosting your immunity this season.  According to the Centers for Disease Control, flu season can begin as early as October, and affects 5-20% of the U.S population every year.  Prevention is key to staying healthy and reflexology can be a very useful tool.  Reflexology helps to stimulate the immune system protecting you from the viruses which cause the common cold and influenza.

Balance. Relax. Restore.  All three are instrumental in boosting the immune system and preventing germs from taking over.  Reflexology increases circulation, detoxes the body, and helps release “feel good” chemicals in our brains, but most importantly, it helps our bodies restore and find a balance.

Ultimately, our bodies want to be healthy.  The stressors that we encounter on a regular basis, many of them unavoidable, do their best to create havoc in our systems, breaking down our immunity little by little.  Things like junk food, pollutants, stress, medications are very harsh on our bodies, often weakening our immune system enough to allow those nasty germs to take over.  Reflexology helps to get rid of those toxins, helps every system of the body to work at its full potential and helps to restore that precious balance that our bodies crave.  This is vital, so that when presented with cold and flu viruses, we can fight them off, instead of laying down and letting them take over.

For this reason, reflexology can also help you recover from colds and the flu faster and help to lessen your symptoms.  The same way popping a pill will take away your stuffy nose and take away your headache, reflexology can also clear your sinuses and dissolve your headache naturally, without the side effects of drugs.  By clearing out the toxins and increasing the circulation of the body, it allows the body to begin the healing process, the restoration to balance.

TIP:  To jumpstart your immunity at home, use a small amount of lotion or massage oil and massage your entire foot.  Start in the center, just under the ball of your foot and take a few deep breaths to increase relaxation.  Move out from the center, being sure not to neglect the top of the foot, which will help to move the toxins out of your body.   In reflexology, we always treat the entire body first and foremost.  The systems of the body do not work independently, but instead work together in harmony.  For that reason, it would be counter-productive to treat one system and not the others.  After giving your whole foot a little attention, give a few extra squeezes to the toes, which house the sinus reflexes.  This can help with head and sinus congestion.   There are a few other specific reflexes that promote the immune system and we can focus on those during your reflexology session.

Give your body the tools it needs to stay healthy and happy this winter season.  Create an environment that allows your body to stay well and heal faster.

The Feet Never Lie...

The feet are the window to the body. They tell us so much about what is going on in the body, and they can even sometimes tell us things about our bodies that we didn’t know. As Eunice Ingham, founder of modern reflexology said “ If you’re feeling out of kilter, don’t know why or what about, let your feet reveal the answer, find the sore spot, work it out.”

Reflexology is the practice of stimulating the organs and systems of the body by working reflex points on the feet. Skeptical? I’ll agree, it does sound bizarre to say that we can tell what is going on in the whole body through the soles of the feet. I’ve seen the roll of the eyes, the raise of the eyebrows, and the subtle smirks. As a reflexologist, though, I know that once you have had your first reflexology experience, this doubt will fade away and will be replaced by your “light bulb moment”.

The light bulb moment is when you think to yourself, “Wow! How did Stacey know I’ve been having sinus headaches?” or “Can she really tell that my right shoulder has been sore?” , and for a second you think that maybe there is some validity to what I’ve been rattling on and on about since you sat down in my chair. I know how it goes and I understand the uncertainty, because I have been there before myself. Often times, not all the words in the world can replace what an experience will reveal to you, and I believe reflexology is this way.

When a friend offered to do my feet to help out with some health issues I had been having, I thought, “Why not?” I was filled to the brim with doubt, but unwilling to pass up on the chance for some relaxation. My light bulb moment was two-fold. Not only could my reflexologist tell a tremendous amount about me, just by working my feet, but within a week, my body started responding to the reflexology and I felt a noticeable difference. I had less anxiety, I was more relaxed, my back and neck pain lessened, I slept better and that was just the beginning. That is the moment I thought, “What if there is some truth to this?”

The light bulb moment is when I go from having a skeptical client just looking for a good foot rub, to having a believer looking for balance, relaxation and restoration. I love when someone says, “How did you know my ear has been killing me?” because I get to say, “The Feet Never Lie”.

And it is true. The feet really never lie. We are brutal and torturous to our poor feet, squishing them into pointy toe heels, and overworking them long after they’ve started screaming for mercy. But no matter how much we use and abuse our feet, they still tell us so much about our health and wellbeing, and they still provide a means for not only balancing, relaxing and restoring, but also for detoxing and cleansing.

So, put your doubt on the back burner and make space for your light bulb moment. Open your mind to healing and wellness and see what your feet will reveal to you.

To get a start on your reflexology journey, here’s a quick way to relax yourself. Press your thumb in the center of your foot, just under the ball of the foot, and take 3 deep, cleansing breaths. This will help to not only relax you, but will allow you to take deeper breaths to get rid of some of the toxins in your body. Try doing this whenever you feel stressed or anxious, or as just part of a bedtime routine to help you unwind for a good night’s sleep.

Keep an eye out for my next blog, where I will be discussing how reflexology can help boost your immune system to get you through cold and flu season.

Be well and live well,
Stacey

Truly, One Toe at a Time

As a part of Howard County's Stress Busters program, I've had the pleasure, over the last week, of meeting some really wonderful people.  A few of them had had some experience with reflexology before, but the vast majority of the employees I met took their shoes and socks off and laid back in my chair only because someone told them, "...it feels really good", or "...you have to try to the foot thing".  I'm okay with being the girl who is doing the "foot thing" and I'm glad that people are coming to see me because they heard good things from other employees, who sat in my chair 15 minutes prior.

My hope is that I have shared the benefits and the relaxation of reflexology, as it was first shared with me many years ago.  Had someone not given "a very skeptical me" my very first reflexology session, I would not be here now and I would have not gone on the incredible journey that I have been on while learning and sharing reflexology.

My hope is that everytime I work on someone's feet, even if it is for the first time, that I am sharing, spreading and encouraging wellness, whole health, and the importance of balancing, relaxing and restoring...one toe at a time.

Be well.

Thank You, Thank You!!

Much thanks to the employees of the Howard County Rec and Parks Headquarters for welcoming me today with such warmth and positive energy!  I really love sharing reflexology with people, whether it's their very first session or their 101st session.

It is always exciting to see a shift towards Whole Health and Prevention and towards "Alternative" health, which will hopefully one day soon stop being alternative and instead just be an intergral part of "Good Health"!

I value each and every one of my clients and I appreciate your continued business and support.  I look forward to seeing each of you soon!  Please see below for my October availability.

Be well...and live well!

What's Left....and October!

Hello!  Hello!  It's that time of year when you can almost smell fall on your doorstep.  Kids are back to school, all things pumpkin are out and about, fall festivals are beginning, and if you take a glance out your back door, you just may be able to see a hint of red or orange around the edges of the leaves.  The humid tropical weather doesn't fit in so much with the fall picture we are all trying to paint, but no worries....cooler fall temps are suppose to arrive soon!

For all the reasons we love fall, there are a few things that come along for the ride that don't quite enhance our fall fun.  Inevitably, cooler weather brings the dreaded allergy season into full effect.  And tagging along right behind allergies are all the cold germs that kids are carting home from school.

Reflexology is incredibly effective for reducing the symptoms of allergies and the cold/flu.  Sit back, put your feet up, wrap a warm aromatherapy neck wrap around your neck, and have your sniffles and stuffiness "reflexed" right out of your head!  Not only will reflexology help leaps and bounds with your stuffy head and watery eyes, it can also help to boost your immunity and allows your body to get back on track and return to a healthy state....which is what it really wants to do, and what you really need it to do, so that you can get back to your pumpkin spice lattes and apple picking!

Below, is my availability for September and October.  Please email me at OneToeAtATime@gmail.com to book your appointments!!

Thank you and I look forward to seeing you soon!

Be well,
Stacey

September Availability

Hello!  And Happy Summertime!  I hope you are enjoying your summer and trying to stay cool in this heat!  It's hard to believe that in just a month school will be starting.  I am really enjoying the summer and although I don't want it to come to an end, I do get excited about the fun things that come with the start of school and the fall.  I am a total summer girl at heart, though.

I only have one appointment still available in August, however, I have my availability for September listed and I hope to see all of you throughout September.  As always, if you'd like an appointment but you don't see anything listed below that works for you, please let me know.  My schedule is somewhat flexible and I'd be more than happy to try to find a time that will work for both of us!

I hope the remainder of your summer is relaxing, peaceful and fun!!!  Looking forward to seeing you soon!!

Be well,
Stacey
